Contractor Positions

NFB-NEWSLINE NY is seeking candidates to fill several contractor positions. All passionate, dedicated, and driven individuals are welcome to apply. New York State residents are preferred. The following positions are currently available:

NFB-NEWSLINE NY Outreach Coordinator

This is a part-time remote contract position with a maximum anticipated time commitment of 60 hours per month at $30.00 per hour.

The Outreach Coordinator will:

  • Develop or update an outreach and marketing plan and oversee its implementation.
  • Oversee day-to-day operation of the NFB-NEWSLINE NY program in coordination with the Affiliate President.
  • Update, under the direction of the Affiliate President and with input from the Technical Coordinator, an electronic system for the retention, management, availability, and electronic storage of program records and files; and assure that the electronic record management system conforms with current WCAG standards and provides for both on-site and off-site backup of records daily.
  • Develop plans for the financing, operation, and expansion of the NFB-NEWSLINE NY program in coordination and under the direction of the Affiliate President.
  • Under the supervision of, and in coordination with the Affiliate President, pursue financial opportunities, including, but not limited to, public and private grants and fundraising.
  • Prepare an annual assessment of the NFB-NEWSLINE NY program's financial and staffing needs.
  • Based on the annual financial and staffing assessment, prepare an annual program budget outlining program goals, tasks to be undertaken in support of said goals, and anticipated expenditures for each program task; and assure that expenditures are kept within budget.
  • Assist the Affiliate President to determine appropriate staffing needs and participate in NFB-NEWSLINE related staffing and management duties.
  • Supervise program staff and volunteers.
  • Provide training for staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee provision of services to current and new subscribers, including, but not limited to, assistance with accounts and troubleshooting.
  • Assure that each outreach staff and/or volunteer is conducting the required number of presentations per month and submitting appropriate documentation for each presentation and associated request for travel and expense reimbursement.
  • Prior to the scheduled date for the Affiliate's Annual State Convention, and at such other times as requested by the Affiliate President, prepare a brief written report on the status of the program, including, but not limited to, the number of new subscribers, total subscribers, contacts with subscribers and their type, summary of presentations made, and a financial update.
  • At each presentation, ensure that brochures with information about NFB-NEWSLINE and the NFB are distributed; and answer any questions attendees may have relative to the presentation.
  • Document the number of attendees at each presentation and ask interested attendees to sign up for the NFB-NEWSLINE service.
  • Promptly record contact information for all new subscribers.
  • As a follow-up to each presentation, promptly enter each new subscriber into the NFB-NEWSLINE system and contact them to provide the dial in number, codes, help desk number, and other NFB resources as appropriate.
  • With the assistance of the NFB-NEWSLINE NY Outreach Specialist(s), maintain a master spreadsheet of all new and existing subscriber information, including contact and log in information and most recent communication dates.
  • Manage all program related correspondence and assure that such correspondence is logged, timely distributed, and acted upon as directed by the Affiliate President.
  • Develop and implement a system for identifying and tracking areas of the State targeted for special outreach efforts.
  • Manage, prepare, and submit all required contract paperwork related to the NFB-NEWSLINE NY program.
  • Assist the Affiliate President in preparing grant applications and other requests for funding.
  • Plan for and oversee the preparation and distribution of program marketing and training materials, including, but not limited to, a quarterly newsletter to subscribers and others.
  • Maintain and submit, no later than ten (10) days after the close of each month, accurate timesheets describing the NFB-NEWSLINE NY program tasks performed, and the time spent on each.
  • sure that any travel or other expenses related to each presentation are documented and submitted monthly together with any requests for reimbursement.
  • Assure that for each presentation, a presentation form is completed, specifying date, location of presentation, contact person's name and address, number of subscribers attained and date added to the system, and number of attendees.
  • Assure that reasonable efforts are being undertaken by NFB-NEWSLINE NY Outreach Specialist(s) and others to add at least fifteen (15) new subscribers per month, and to reach out by phone to at least sixty (60) new and current subscribers each month to determine whether they are using NFB-NEWSLINE; and if so, how often, if they are experiencing any problems with the service, and any other questions necessary to assess subscriber satisfaction and obtain input.
  • If a problem is identified and cannot be resolved by the Outreach Specialist(s), attempt to resolve it and if this is not possible, refer it to the National NFB-NEWSLINE staff for resolution.
  • Perform other NFB-NEWSLINE NY related duties as assigned by the Affiliate President.

NFN-NEWSLINE NY Outreach Specialist

This is a part-time remote contract position with a maximum anticipated time commitment of 60 hours per month at $20.00 per hour.

The Outreach Specialist will work under the direction of the Outreach Coordinator to assist in conducting the following activities:

  • Arrange for a minimum of five (5) online or in-person presentations per month.
  • At each in-person presentation, pass out NFB-NEWSLINE brochures, provide information about NFB-NEWSLINE and the NFB, and answer any questions attendees may have relative to the presentation.
  • Document the number of attendees at each presentation and ask interested attendees to sign up for the NFB-NEWSLINE service.
  • Record contact information for all new subscribers.
  • As a follow-up to each presentation, enter each new subscriber into the system and contact them to provide the dial in number, codes, help desk number, and other NFB resources as appropriate.
  • Maintain a spreadsheet containing subscriber contact and log in information for all new or existing subscribers with whom the Outreach Specialist communicates and, monthly, provide that information to the Outreach Coordinator for inclusion in the NFB-NEWSLINE NY master spreadsheet.
  • Process submitted applications from potential subscribers.
  • Assist the Outreach Coordinator in managing all program related correspondence and assure that such correspondence is logged, timely distributed, and acted upon as directed by the Newsline Outreach Coordinator
  • Assist the Outreach Coordinator in managing, preparing, and submitting all required contract paperwork related to the NFB-NEWSLINE NY program.
  • Assist the Outreach Coordinator in preparing and distributing program marketing and training materials, including, but not limited to, a quarterly newsletter to subscribers and others.
  • Maintain and submit, no later than ten (10) days after the close of each month, accurate timesheets describing the NFB-NEWSLINE NY program tasks performed and the time spent on each.
  • Document any travel or other expenses related to each presentation and submit said documentation monthly to the NFB-NEWSLINE NY Outreach Coordinator for reimbursement.
  • For each presentation, complete a presentation form including date, location, point of contact, number of attendees, and number of new subscribers; and submit these forms monthly to the NFB-NEWSLINE NY Outreach Coordinator.
  • Sign up no less than five (5) new NFB-NEWSLINE NY subscribers per month.
  • Call a minimum of Sixty (60) current subscribers each month asking whether the subscriber is using NFB-NEWSLINE, and if so, how often, if they are experiencing any problems with the service, and other questions as assigned.
  • When a problem is identified, attempt to resolve it; if this is not possible, refer it to the Outreach Coordinator for further action.
  • Following each phone call, complete a subscriber survey form documenting the contact as directed by the Outreach Coordinator.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Outreach Coordinator.

NFB-NEWSLINE NY Office Operations Manager

This is a part-time remote contract position with a maximum anticipated time commitment of 60 hours per month at $25.00 per hour.

The Office Operations Manager will:

  • Assist the NFB-NEWSLINE NY Outreach Coordinator with preparing all NFB-NEWSLINE reports, including the annual report to be submitted to the Board of Directors at the National Federation of the Blind of New York State’s Annual State Convention.
  • Working with the Affiliate President and Outreach Coordinator, develop periodic recommendations for improving and maintaining the NFB-NEWSLINE NY program and related electronic documents, scheduling, and communication systems.
  • File all documentation submitted by, or related to, the NFB-NEWSLINE program.
  • In coordination with the Affiliate President and Outreach Coordinator, maintain all NFB-NEWSLINE NY program records including bills, invoices, receipts, correspondence, and all other business records in an orderly and accessible electronic form.
  • Assure that on-site and off-site backups of all records are maintained and kept current.
  • Maintain spreadsheet containing subscriber contact and log in information for all new or existing subscribers with whom the Office Operations Manager communicates and, monthly, provide that information to the Outreach Coordinator for inclusion in the NFB-NEWSLINE NY master spreadsheet.
  • Manage all correspondence and assure that such correspondence is logged, distributed in a timely manner, and acted upon as directed by the Outreach Coordinator and/or the Affiliate President.
  • Answer incoming calls and emails and help process NFB-NEWSLINE applications submitted by potential subscribers.
  • Assist with arranging for travel and accommodations for NFB-NEWSLINE NY team members and track areas of the State targeted by the NFB-NEWSLINE NY Outreach Team for focused outreach efforts.
  • Assist in the development, editing, and production of presentation materials and program information such as newsletters and handouts.
  • Prepare and submit all required grant and/or contract paperwork related to the NFB-NEWSLINE NY program including documentation, processing, and completion of claims due and/or owing.
  • Maintain and submit, no later than ten (10) days after the close of each month, accurate timesheets describing the NFB-NEWSLINE program tasks performed, and the time spent on each.
  • Perform other NFB-NEWSLINE NY and related duties as assigned by the Outreach Coordinator or Affiliate President.

NFB-NEWSLINE NY Technical Coordinator

This is the scope of duties and responsibilities that the NFB-NEWSLINE NY Technical Coordinator must meet or exceed regarding the administration of the NFB of NY website, telecommunications, and other digital systems and services deemed necessary and essential to the successful operation, marketing, and outreach of the NFB-NEWSLINE NY program. This is a part-time remote contract position with a maximum anticipated time commitment of 40 hours per month at $40.00 per hour.

The Technical Coordinator will, in a timely manner:

  • Maintain the New York State Local Information Channel and add content as directed.
  • Maintain and expand the NFBNY.org website, assuring that all content is up to date and that all NFB-NEWSLINE NY related information is current and accessible to the public.
  • Assist in the production and distribution of electronic information, including the NFB-NEWSLINE NY quarterly newsletter.
  • Assist NFB-NEWSLINE NY contractors and subscribers with technical issues.
  • Assure that all website content produced or sought to be made available through the nfbny.org website is accessible and complies with current WCAG standards.
  • Assist the Outreach Coordinator and the Affiliate President in developing and updating an electronic system for the retention, management, availability, and electronic storage of program records and files; and assure that the electronic record management system conforms with current WCAG standards and provides for both on-site and off-site backup of records daily.
  • Work in conjunction with the NFB-NEWSLINE NY Outreach Team to develop, maintain, and update as necessary, email and other electronic capabilities to produce and distribute NFB-NEWSLINE related marketing, promotional, training, and presentation materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Outreach Coordinator and/or the Affiliate President.
